Hi,
I live in halls of resistance at uni, and we basicly have an etherenet socket in the wall which is connected to some central server somewere. Each socket is a 10mbps ethernet connection, i guess so people dont steal all the bandwidth.
But i wanted wirless in my room and wireless speakers / printer. So i bought an airport express, to use with my 1st gen macbook, aka it has 802.11 g, and the airport express is the new 802.11 n version. So obviously it should transmit at 54 mbps, and the etherenet only has 10mbps, so i should still get the 9.5mbps i was getting in speed tests with ethernet, but now im getting about 4-5 mbps.
Any reason for such a decrease in speed? obviosly i would expect it to slow down a bit, because its sort of like adding another meter of cable in an electrical circuit kinda thing, but not by that much. Maybe its conflicting internet settings or something? any ideas?
Also the bigger problem is that with airport express, the internet will reduce to 0mbps ever minute or so, so if im downloading a big file, like an apple update, it will stop downloading every minute, then i have to stop the update and start it again, and the internet will sometime take ages and ages to load a page, even 5mbps should feel much much more responsive than it does?
Please any help will be great, thanks in advance, and thanks for reading such a long boring post, if u got this far..
