I have a LOT of movies on my computer and I'm quickly running out of space (already at 500 gb). In my tremendous foresight, I've decided that I will be needing a ton of space later. After having my first HD failure I would like for all my information to be backed up. Expandability would be a big plus, but low cost is better.

I love the idea of the drobo, but I can't get over how much it costs. What's the cheapest method to get at least 1TB of redundant space? I don't mind piecing something together, but I will not build a file server.

Other World Compuying has quite a few external enclosure to pick from. I was flipping through their latest catalog this afternoon. You can get the Guardian Maximus with 2 x 1TB drives for $479 or $149 with no drives.
