I currently have a Verizon LTE iPad 3, and we're going to be traveling to Canada in a few months. Is the Verizon version compatible with Canadian networks so I can just buy a prepaid data SIM and pop it in?

Compatible for 3G speeds I believe but you can't buy prepaid SIMs here as far as I know. All iPad 3 plans are post paid plans.

Damn, is the AT&T model compatible with Canadian LTE (Rogers, Bell, etc)? Does that mean they're gonna require a contract? We're only going to be in Canada for a couple days.

Yes the AT&T version is the version we get up here. And as far as I've seen you need to get a contract. Sucks big time since the iPad 2 allows you to go prepaid and activate on the device.
