I was just browsing through Engadget's recent posts and I hadn't seen this yet(sorry if this is old to you), but ATT said there will be an LTE phone before the end of the year. Now the iPhone hasn't been released yet, and with both carriers ready for LTE. Is it the LTE iPhone coming later this year?

What do you guys think?

Here's the article: http://www.engadget.com/2011/08/10/atandt-no-lte-smartphone-until-late-2011/

AT&T will claim that since the iPhone 5 will have an HDSPA+ chip in it, it will be 4G. And then advertise that they have the only 4G iPhone 5 in the US. Totally BS, but that is what they will do. It will be faster than the Verizon iPhone 5, and that part will be true, but it will not be 4G.

LTE wont happen this time around. Worldwide there are very few countries that have it. Most importantly the battery hit on LTE is great.

Zero chance of an iPhone with LTE this year. Apple wouldn't allow that type of battery hit. They do things late but make sure to do them the right way when they do and Apple wouldn't do LTE until the power gulping issues are figured out.

Still painfully slow on Verizon 3G network.
So everyone was complaining about AT&T being painfully slow and rejoiced when there was an option for Verizon and now we are calling Verizon "painfully slow".

Yeh, barely any countries outside the USA have LTE and overseas markets make up way more business the just the USA. Here in Australia iPhone marketshare is way above 60%, much higher than the USA. One of the carriers in Australia just started a test of LTE in 3 cities last week.

Also LTE isn't real "4G". Real 4G is much faster than LTE.
