I just got an email from my parts supplier, and they are the 'first' to offer this luminescent iPhone 5 home button, which stays on for 15 seconds after you turn of the screen.

They sell them for under 20$ in white, blue, yellow, red and green. I think this isn't the color of the button, but rather the color of the LED.

I'm slightly worried about this, as last time they did this with the iPhone 4 back panel illuminated apple logo, people reported that their LCD lost contrast, seeing as it was feeding form the screen power rail.

So what do you guys think?

personally i think it looks very cheap and tacky and would be a PITA to fit and then remove again if you needed to put the phone in for repair etc...

Ha! You can forget about removing them without removing some sort of solder pad...

Seems, well, kind of ugly to me. The fact that you have to mod your phone to get this to work only increase my discomfort on this as well.

I went with the black i5 just so the white borders around the screen wouldn't be distracting, this would drive me nuts.

Bad idea all around. The rear luminescent logo at least had a tie in with MacBook Pro, so to a degree it made some sense. But on the front like this is just terrible idea and looks tacky.

Agreed, would better if this feature was in the back like the macbook.

I think it's a horrible idea and ugly as hell. ...unless of course Apple implements it. Then it's genius. Pure genius.

not interested in such a thing... it's disgusting! moreover the idea of opening the phone... it's crazy...

The more I look at it, the more am sure the iPhone is perfect as it's made, u try to make it distinctive, but that only makes it uglier.

Lol. I was thinking the same thing.

I don't think this looks bad at all. I do think that it isn't worth the effort though. Basically permanently voiding warranty and requiring me to dismantle the phone all for a little light on the home button? I'd pass.

I think it would look better if they stuck with the squircle instead of the apple logo. If Apple did this, they could use the luminescent button as a notification light instead of the camera flash.

I really don't think it's that bad! I love Apple products and have owned just about everyone from the Apple TV to the Macbook Pro. I have always modded my stuff and never had trouble with putting it back for warranty work. If Apple offered this as an option I wonder how many people here would have a change of mind:???? I'm just saying! :D

How many people are going to go through all those steps for this mod? Not many (which given the complexity is a good thing).
