After I got over my cold around new years, I got like this thing in my throat. It's kinda like a sore throat but after I swallow once it goes away for a good while. It's only on my right side of the throat. I wake up every morning with it. It doesn't bother me, it just feels like my throat is a little dry. I cough a little or swallow and moisten my throat and it's gone. But last night it felt like there was a lump there. Today, it seemed like it got bigger. I feel it in my throat on my right side. It's not obstructing any breathing or eating but I feel it there. It's not my tonsils, I'm pretty sure. It's located around the middle of my neck, in the throat.

I think I'm goin to goto the doctors tommorow, and have them check it out. anyone have any idea what this might be?

swollen gland. your lymph nodes are prrobably fighting infection. however it sounds like it's been a while, i hope it's not mononucleosis... but surely you'd notice more than a sore throat and swollen glands if that were the case. mention mono to the doctor though to be on the safe side. do see a doctor though of course, it's been longer than a couple weeks, that needs addressing.

good luck.

Why do people come here and ask about these things BEFORE going to the doctor?

If you wanna hear medical advice from a web designer, then fine. I'd rather go to a doctor though. ;)

Because Dr's are scary and cost a lot of money!

So what is it you are studying?:p

I so agree.

My doctor told me at least five times that she was too busy and that I would have to reschedule.

Jeez. I just asked one question. :(

Might be a tonsilith. Basically during a cold or allergy mucus builds up near the tonsils and bacteria move in and form a yellowish-white lump hidden in a pit near the tonsil. I've had those before and they result in feeling like a sore throat usually just on one side that sounds a lot like what you described. One day I was looking in the mirror trying to figure out why I always had this sore throat and I noticed this white thing by a tonsil and after I was able to get it out the sore throats went away immediately.

I hate goin to the doctors.

And thanks for the support, atleast the ones that did.

I had the same exact thing a few years ago. I went to the doctor, he felt around, told me I was psycho(somatic) and then shoved a camera up my nose and down my throat (quickly and without telling me what was going on).

God it sucked.

I paid $100 to be insulted and vaguely violated. And I still, today, feel the lump on the right side of my throat.

But if you think I'm going to another doctor who's going to shove a camera up my nose ... well, I'll need to feel a little sicker first.

Well atleast they actually did something. I waited for a good hr and a half, and then more waiting in the little room. She told me it was nothing and tested for strep. Came out negative and said don't worry about it unless it starts to hurt.

When I have a sore throat I take extra vitamin C and gargle with warm salt water three times a day until it goes away usually within 48 hours. Really works.

I just found out what these things actually are. I've been the doctor 3 times over the last ten years because I felt my tonsil was swollen. When I looked at the tonsil I could see a couple of small white patches. Of course, the doctor had no idea what they were or what to do about it.

So, when they would get bad, I would spend a week or so milking out these cheese-like lumps. They smell horrible and picking them out made my tonsil even more sore. I would feel better for a month and then I'd have to start over.

I recently got a water pick to "shoot" them out. It's been working good so far.

i had tonsilitis a year and a half ago. doctor without warning put a camera up my nose to show a med student what inflamed tonsils looked like. didn't make me too happy.

And I'll stay away from the sore chest jokes. ;)

I too have this problem, exactly as you describe, my mom does as well. I wish I knew what caused this, or at the very least, what these things are called. I think they tend to act up whenever I'm having sinus trouble, but perhaps I'm drawing the wrong parallels.
