LWDS is soemthing we should all be concerned with. It is something we shouldn’t take for granted as it’s really starting to take hold in the Apple community.
Large Watch Derangement Syndrome first started as a minor problem at WatchCrunch.com but fairly quickly took hold about 5 or so years ago. It’s since spread to various watch enthusiast sites, particularly the Dieselwatch.com community where it continues to plague severs and provide ongoing treatment needs from moderators.
I am concerned for the Apple community. First it starts with breaking very important restrictions on wrist to watch face ratios. This can really occur regardless of the materials used, or the weight of the Watch though there is certainly a direct correlation between size, materials and weight that can’t be denied. As the severity of the derangement takes hold, watch faces and cases can end up protruding beyond the edges of the arm and wrist.
Consequently as it takes hold, and people fall deep into the syndrome they forget to account the cost on their body and emotional well-being. These complications can include but are not limited to:
1) Nerve damage and Carpel tunnel syndrome if the wrist size to Watch ratio overloads the muscles and bone structures of the lower arm and wrist over time.
2) Skin irritation exacerbated by excessive weight shifting, and friction caused by certain band materials or wearing the watch too tight
3) Frequent tendencies of sufferers to utilize incorrect colors, improper material types, and grossly oversized bands to compensate for LWDS side effects. This can lead to breaking very problematic and required social norms, isolating a victim from family and friends, and of course lead to frequent conflicts with their online communities. That is why I bring it up.
It’s something that we need to take seriously, and discuss here before it becomes a serious issue.
