Hi,

I recently upgraded from a Late 2013 13" MacBook Pro to an M1 MacBook Pro because the former stopped working. Is it just me or are the displays very different? I am very sensitive to such things and personally find the display on the M1 MacBook Pro is blurrier and causes more eye fatigue than the Late 2013 model. I also noticed this on a 16" MacBook Pro I recently used. Any insight would be appreciated.

Thank you and Happy New Year.

Mine got blurry too when I opened it and marveled and its speed and beauty for the first time...

That is interesting. Thank you for sharing this, CRoebuck. I think it’s a little odd I don’t have any issues with my iPhone XS Max, considering that, based on my knowledge, issues with PWM are more common with OLED displays. I am going to try using it for a few more days and see if I can adjust.

if anyone else has any suggestions, please let me know.

Thank you.

I looked at one at Best Buy. I know people mess with the settings in the stores. But, I thought it looked washed out too. I could only view the screen with white backgrounds which I don't do well with due to Cataracts. Maybe I need to try one at the Apple store. Would like to view same web pages I use on my current 2015 13 Inch MBPro Retina. Ones with Dark Mode enabled. It didn't look as good as the white background pages on my current laptop. Didn't have a lot of time to play with it. I now have my 2015 MBPro set up with 2 T7 SSD's and a Thunderbolt dock. Using TB3 to TB2 adapter though. Was hoping to see a difference in web browsing clarity. But, I think the screens are identical or close to it on resolution. Maybe more Nits. May wait on the 14 inch one rumored to out later this year.

I think I found a solution; I calibrated the display to make the white point 9300k. That isn't gone to harm the display/laptop over time, is it?

Thanks, macintoshmac. Along the same lines, I assume it won't (negatively) affect battery life either?

No, it won't. It is just color temperature. Brightness is what would affect battery life positively or negatively depending on level. I have set my MBA's display to 5500 K, if I remember it right. You set your display's color temperature the way your eyes relish it best, without worry towards battery life. :)

Or you can try true tone
That's the strange thing; I tried turning True Tone off, and while I definitely could notice the difference, it didn't seem to help much. Now I have True Tone on with the screen calibrated to a 9300k white point. I honestly have no clue why that is helping so much. I really hope it is not masking an underlying display issue as the issue seems (seemed?) to be concentrated to the left side of the display.

Try create another fresh new user. Or quest user...a chcek if the problem is there as well

You need to play with the scaling options, don't use Default. I can't remember but there is a rule where you have to set the scaling to exactly half your resolution or something in that context to not get any blurriness.
