My M1 2020 MBA keyboard stopped working. I purchased a new trackpad cable from Amazon. Now the keyboard sometimes work.

Should I try another trackpad cable or is their other issues not enabling the keyboard to work? Nothing was spilled on the laptop.

If you can use the keyboard long enough to get into Apple Diagnostics you can run that to see if it's a hardware failure.

Shut it down completely then hold down the power button/fingerprint ID until you see Loading startup options. Once that opens, hold down Command+D. You'll see it asks you to continue holding that combo, then Apple Diagnostics will load.

From there it's all trackpad to move around. You'll see the options and tests to run. Good luck.

I had the trackpad in my 2015 MBP fail. It also caused the keyboard to stop working. There was a tiny circuit board on the trackpad which had an obviously failed component on it ... blown capacitor or something ... not really sure what it was. But it looked very wrong to me / discolored. I bought a new trackpad from ifixit and installed it myself. Might be similar problem on your mac? Dunno. Could also send it in for repair. Or, the M4 Air is on sale now for $750 I just saw ...
