Third Impact
I just noticed this right now, but in dark mode, apple apps like Calendar and Settings had a purple tint to it. It never happened before - I'm not sure what caused it. I can't seem to replicate it at this moment. Anyone have any experiences like this?

I'm seriously thinking this is a hardware problem with my display:

This is my third problem with the display. I did read to take extra caution with the retina display. My parents keep touching the display even though I explicitly told them not to and this doesn't have a touch panel. I have to wipe down the fingerprints, etc, so I think it may be possible that gave some damage to the screen. I am disappointed that such small force damaged my screen, if that is the case.
Anyways, I hope I can get a screen replacement since im still covered by the free warranty. There aren't any apple stores nearby, but I'll be moving soon, so I was thinking getting support then. Does anyone know what the conditions are to get a replacement? All of the problems I have, I can't reproduce them reliably. They all happen at random moments, so its hard to demonstrate the problem.

The screen is behind a glass panel so the amount of force needed to tap a touchscreen won't damage it.

Try setting up your iPhone to video record your Air, just leave it going for a while and then trim the video once you capture it. That way your evidence doesn't rely on reproducing a random issue.

Try going to System Preferences > Displays and turning off both True Tone and Night Shift. One of those might be changing your screen color. If you figure out which one, at least you can make a decision.

I had a purple/red tinge to these types of app in the first couple of days of having my M1 MBA.
I was scratching my head having a mooch around and testing colours and things.
In my case it turned out to be the desktop picture bleeding through the (slight) transparency of the open window (I had my background changing every 30 minutes or so).
When the red/purple background changed to something else the open windows became white 🤓

You can also turn off "Allow wallpaper tinting" in System Preferences > General.

I meant to, but I forgot to mention this:
I didn't change any settings at all, but the dark mode had a purple tint - in fact, it was quite purple. I disabled dark mode and turned it on again, and the purple was gone. So I doubt it is a setting issue, since I've had the same settings since I setup the computer.

Had the desktop background changed?

It's a bug in the window chrome "color tint" setting.

It's software, it's not your display.

I have an M1 MacBook Air and I had this before. It only affect window chrome and it disappear when you disable and reenable the dark mode.

except its not chrome. Chrome was fine. Its first party apps like Calendar and System Settings that had it, like I said in the OP.

There is a bug when enter / exit Full Screen that causes all your apps with tinted windows to go purple.

See my three screenshots below:

1: Window tinting enabled: purple window – bug after you exit Full Screen
2: Window tinting enabled: correct behaviour
3: Window tinting disabled in Settings

mine definitely looked like #1. So it's just a bug? So that's one thing less to worry about, at least.

Hey, I have the same problem.
The color turns purple when I create a new desktop and drag the application panel into it

How to adjust the color?

macOS Big Sur
version 11.5
MacBook Air (M1, 2020)
Chip Apple M1

hey there. according to #11, its a big sur bug. seeing other people having the same problem suggests it is a software related one and not a hardware related one. we'll have to wait for it to be fixed, i guess.

Software bug. Try turning off wallpaper tinting as suggested by @darngooddesign to verify.

You can also turn off "Allow wallpaper tinting" in System Preferences > General.
