M1 Air USB hub / Sata 3 incompatibility.

Hi all,
I recently moved up to an M1 Macbook Air.
I got myself a displaylink adapter and OWC TB3 mini so I can have Ethernet, USB2, USB3, and dual displays.

I figured I'd have a USB hub in the 2.0 port for small/light things...keyboard, auth dongles, etc,
and a USB 3 hub in the USB 3 port, for displaylink adapter and an external Sata 3 HDD.

Using an ASM 1153e based adapter directly into the 3.0 port on the TB3 dock is fine,
but plugging it to the same port via a USB 3 hub the machine kernel panics within seconds.

I have an older Sata (II?) adapter based on ASM1153, without the e, and it works fine.

The USB hub is a 4 port 0bda-0411(USB3) + 0bda-5411(USB2).

I was wondering if anyone can hypothesise as to what's going wrong here and maybe suggest a better USB3/Sata3 adapter,
or more compatible USB3 hub?

Many thanks in advance.

Just to update this.
Since the OP I did experience a few crashes with 1153e attached directly to TB3 USB3 port.

I bought a Jmicron USB3/Sata3 adapter which seemed to work without issue no matter where I plug it in, then replaced the OCW TB3 mini dock with a similar Targus dock and now all adapters seem to work without issue.

I guess my TB3 mini is faulty, or it doesn't get on well with ASM 1153e chipsets.
