I don't know if it's just me but for whatever reason every time I transfer a file on my M1 MBP it takes a ridiculously long time but on any intel based Mac I get a normal disk transfer time. For instance, on my 2015 MBP it takes a minute or two to transfer a 12GB file from my ExFat formatted external SSD. And it's the same on my 2015 MBP. But when I try to transfer the same file on my M1 MBP, it takes about 15 minutes. Why is it like this and how can I make it faster? I've heard that formatting as APFS might make it faster but this is a drive that I need to be cross compatible with other computers so changing the format is not an option. System profiler also reports the correct SSD speeds and I am using the same cable for all systems.

TLDR: Is it just me or are External SSD's really slow on M1 MacBooks but actually normal speeds on intel machines
