Hello everyone
Just purchased a m1 air , loving it so far . However, I keep reading about it having an amazing battery life (over 10 hours of usage ) but that is really not my case . On My first full charge from 100% to 10%, I checked my screen time usage , less than 4 hrs in 5 days. And that is just for web browsing , 1 hour one day , 2 hours on another
Any thoughts ? Thanks !

It may improve because Spotlight indexing on new Macs uses energy. You might try reducing screen brightness, to the lowest level that's comfortable for you. Also, look at the Energy tab in Activity Monitor, to see which apps are using energy. If there's a third party app, like Chrome, near the top of the list, make sure you have the Universal or Arm version of the app; to check this, find the app in Applications folder, then select it and press Cmd I to look at the Info for the app. If Kind is listed as Application (Intel) then replace it with Universal or Arm version, if available, or look for an alternative app.

Battery life on the M1 isn't as impressive as it used to be, especially on Monterey. It already got worse with the later Big Sur releases, and with Monterey it got even worse.

That being said, it wasn't as bad for me as yours. Initially, with my M1 MBP (larger battery than your Air!) I was able to reach between 13 and 16 hours of light office work depending on screen brightness. Later that went down to something between 9 and 12 hour. With Monterey I got 9 hours max. Battery itself wasn't the culprit, still have 99% capacity remaining according to Coconut Battery. Here on MacRumors there are quite a lot of similar reports about users observing a reduction in battery life that can't be explained by an aging battery.

I have now replaced my M1 MBP with a 16" M1 Max with 32C GPU. Battery life is roughly the same during light office work for this one.

Now just for the record, is "screen time" the same thing as how many hours the battery should last ?? in other words, if apple says I will have 12 hrs of battery life, does it mean the same as 12 hours of screen time ??
