I’m suddenly in need of a new desktop. I know we’re in the midst of a chip shortage but what is M1 iMac stock doing short term? Doesn’t seem to be anything at any config at any color in my area which I thought odd because this is not a new release. Any tips or tends to look out for? Thanks.

Blast it. I put this in the wrong forum. If someone can move it to the iMac forum I’d be grateful.

Certain colors of standard configs are available in some stores in my area (SF Bay Area), but it looks like you cannot select ANY upgrade option. This is a problem because it is highly desirable for many people to get 16GB RAM

Besides the various colors for the three standard configurations, you also when selecting the highest model, option 16GB RAM and 1 TB (either silver or blue) is available as a local pickup choice also from Apple stores.

I just looked at the silver 24" iMac 8/8/512GB config (retail $1699) that was in stock at most stores as a example). BTW don't buy the cheapest config 8/7/256GB. It only has one fan instead of two, cheaper keyboard without the touch ID, only 2 ports instead of 4 ports in the rear, gets hotter when playing games compared to the M1 8/8 models.

If you give us a general area location we can advise whats available.

How urgently? Delivery time is 1-2 weeks, can’t you just order the one you want? All the configs I checked could be delivered to me on Friday.

If you have a Microcenter nearby. They generally are pretty good about keeping Apple products in stock.

I've checked a couple locations and they have 8GB and 16GB in stock.
