Hi, I've tried replacing my MacBook with an iPad and just use my iMac for all my computer type tasks but I'm missing having a MacBook. I'd like to switch to a MacBook & external monitor setup.

Would the M2 MacBook Air be a downgrade due to the thermals? Or does the difference in the chip make up the difference?

I currently have:

M1 iMac, 8 core GPU, 16GB RAM, 1TB SSD

I'm considering:

M2 MacBook Air, 10 core GPU, 24GB RAM, 1TB SSD

I might consider 16GB RAM instead, I'm not sure. I use it for music production & 4k video editing (but in Logic & Final Cut, so not as taxing as other software out there).

Thanks :)

PS, any recommendations for which monitor to go with? I'd like it to be at least 27" & 4K. I'd like it to have a close to retina ppi but it doesn't seem like there's many options for that outside of the expensive StudioDisplay/Pro Display XDR lol
