With all the supply problems, redesigns are even harder to deliver. The iPad mini got delayed 6 mo then stuck with a bad screen. They are likely giving the new Mac mini another 6 months to make production easier.

Are you sure or are you just selecting the more expensive of the two M1 Mac Minis which is 512GB by default, it won't let you downgrade that to 256GB.

This is incorrect. The Apple Store still shows the 256GB as the base model. Same prices as before.
