For those in the UK, the M1 Mac Mini, both base models have been in the store the last two nights but are selling out ridiculously fast as you can imagine. I managed to get one for my parents by waiting until midnight last night and refreshing. Usually, the store goes out of stock for everything after a certain time (at least that is what I have found) but recently there always seems to be stock there at least until after midnight.

Just for info in case you are trying to get one but are not seeing them. By 10 past midnight, they were all gone again.

Thanks for the info. Still debating what to replace my ageing iMac & life expired MBA with. Mac Mini was preferred, but am now considering a laptop, even though the reason I got the iPad Pro was so I didn’t need a laptop for photos when travelling.

For me, the Mac Mini was the way to go as a relatively cheap (by Apple standards) new device. This is especially true given the M1 is so new and there is still so much still to come. The M1 Mac Mini is a nice device, runs amazingly well and is something you can always use later if you got a laptop.

Personally, there is too much coming on the Laptop side to jump in now unless you have no options. The 14" MBP for example which is likely to have the next level CPU, the M1X/M2, whatever they call it. A complete redesign.

Not saying you should go one way or another, just that the Mac Mini is a great device that is not going to change much if at all in the near future whilst the laptop offerings are.

Yes I’m minded to go with the Mac Mini, for now at least. The benefit being that it’s not got the thermal constraints of its portable cousins, although by all accounts that’s less of an issue for the M1 models.

The MBA has a £300 premium over the Mac Mini and the MBP has a £600 premium. That’s quite a difference when I already have the iPad Pro available for whenever I’m allowed to travel again.

I’ve now just got to decide whether to keep to the base models or upgrade. I’ve got a 2TB External SSD plugged into my iMac which can take all the big stuff off the Mac Mini’s internal SSD (iMac currently boots from it). I could thus probably keep to 256GB. If I can get a 256/16 refurb, that’s only £65 more than a brand new 256/8 model.

The trade in value of the iMac is only £150, so I might keep that & downgrade it for use as a second screen in Target Disk Mode.
