I just traded in my 2012 iMac for a new M1 Mac mini and an LG Ultrafine 5k monitor.

For the most part, I'm happy with it, but I've run in to a couple of things that may or not be issues and I'm not sure if they would be software of hardware issues. I'm not all that computer savvy.

The first thing is that a few times a day when I wake up my computer from sleep, the image is very blurry. Its easily and quickly fixed by a restart, but I'm concerned its a symptom of an upcoming hardware issue.

The second is that occasionally my mouse pointer becomes non-responsive for about 4-5 seconds. I'm using a brand new magic keyboard and trackpad.

And thirdly, it takes about 10-15 seconds from the time I hit a key or touch the track pad for my computer to wake up from sleep. I wasn't sure if the instant wake thing they showed on the announcement vid is supposed to work on Mac minis with wireless keyboard and trackpad, but this seems a bit long to me. I think its even longer than my old iMac.

Anyone else come across any of these issues? Any advice?

I think there is a software issue with waking up from sleep on the new M1s. My bluetooth keyboard and trackpad were losing connections all the time until I went into System Prefs -> Energy Saver and checked the "Prevent computer from sleeping automatically when the display is off" box, then the problem went away (and of course now the computer never goes to sleep). I have the LG 4K Ultrafine monitor (the old 21.5" one) and have not had any problems with the display.

It almost sounds like blue tooth issues. That is common on the 2018 which I have. A few times I would get issues with Bluetooth and I found reconnecting my USB-A ports usually solved the issue. The USB-A ports seemed to interfere with the Bluetooth antenna If I remember correctly, at least the outer most port.

Thanks! This reduced the time it takes my computer to wake from 10-15 seconds to 2-3 seconds. I appreciate it.

I don't have anything plugged into my USB-A ports. Thanks for the tip though.

Mine does take about 15 seconds to wake from sleep but I think it’s more about the monitor going to sleep as well and not so much about the Bluetooth connection. I might try the suggestion above to see what that’s like, but I doubt I’ll leave my computer like that as I would rather it go to sleep when not in use

I just purchased an M1 Mac mini (16GB, 512GB) along with an LG 32" 4K HDR monitor. So far I'm absolutely LOVING the computer and the display. Both are amazing! I'm coming from a 2015 27" 5K iMac and this computer is blazing fast in comparison. I'm a graphic designer and have had ZERO issues with Photoshop and Illustrator! They both open quicker! However I am running into a few issues:

- When I first setup my new M1 Mac mini I got a notification that said "Welcome to your new MacBook Air" and when I clicked on it, it went to a page that talks all about the new MacBook Air which I do not own LOL! I was like WTF?

- When I wake the computer every morning, the LG display first detects the wake, then displays a message that says there's no input, then goes back to sleep. I have to unplug the Thunderbolt cable and plug it back in and it works! Does this EVERY time I wake the computer. Is this a software issue that either Apple or LG needs to fix?

- My new Mac mini has crashed about 5 times so far in about 2 days LOL. It's a very fast crash and it always displays the "Your computer restarted because of a problem" message. I always click the "Report" button as I assume Apple is wanting the feedback and trying to iron out all the kinks.

- After the last crash I got a notification that said "Your computer has now been updated to macOS Catalina"!!!! HAHA!!! Another WTF moment!! LOL. How is it even possible to get that notification on an M1 Mac mini since they have never had Catalina installed on them??? So weird.

Other than that the computer is really AMAZING! I figure these are all just bugs that will get worked out eventually. Anybody have any insight?

Sounds like you might have a bad OS installation. If it were me, I’d either return it for a new machine or reinstall the OS myself.

Wow really?? I wasn't thinking it was something that bad.

I found all kinds of issues with mine....after an hour on with Apple Care....he gave up and said, lets re-install the OS....so I agreed and we go all kinds of error messages...and could not accomplish it....so he wanted me to drive an hour to an apple repair and i said "no" and simple had Apple send me a shipping label and return it....I got the new one on Friday but I have not taken it out of the box as my 10.3.2 Mac Mini is working better than ever and I may send the second unit back for a refund...

If you are using WiFi for your Mini, switch it to 5Ghz instead of 2.4GHz.

Your Bluetooth's 2.4GHz may be interfered by the Wifi signal if in the similar frequency.

I use a wired Ethernet LAN for my M1 Mini, Apple Magic Keyboard 2 w/ USB mouse, and 2 displays.

Have not had a single issue with wakeup (I never shut down my Macs), nor any display or mouse cursor issues - it's been almost a month with the new M1 that replaced the 2012 i7 CTO.

Is the the UltraFine display that Apple is selling? TIA
No it's not. I was going to get that one but I decided I wanted a 32" size screen instead so I went with the LG 32UL950-W. I was worried going from 5K to 4K but from my seating position it looks just as crisp and clear. I can only tell the pixels on the 4K if I get right up against it with my eyes. Of course Apple's 5K is no comparison, it definitely is a superior display but this new 32" with slim bezels is still pretty gorgeous! It's got DCI-P3 and HDR. Pretty happy with it!
