Hey,

I have a LG 27UL650 4k monitor that is connected (via DisplayPort) to a HP Thunderbolt Dock 120W G2 docking station. The docking station is currently connected to my MacBookPro (via thunderbolt) and it works fairly well.

I'm thinking about switching to an M1 Mac Mini, as I only really use the MacBook in clamshell mode anyways. But I'm not sure if the docking station will work on the M1 Mac Mini. Does anyone have experience with the G2 docking station? Does it work (especially the DisplayPort) on M1? Is it a problem, that the docking station also delivers power (which isn't needed for the Mac Mini, obviously)?

Thanks!

I was also looking at the G2 dock for m1 mini and read some buyer review from China, other then the 2 dp ports, it works with m1 after updating the firmware.

Strangely, I don't see any mac os drivers for the docking station. I can only download windows drivers on their website. Does mac os update the firmware automatically?

You will hear the fan of the G2 Docking station after moving to the M1 Mac mini. It's noticeable louder than the minis fan

Yeah, I can imagine :D
I've just ordered the Mac Mini, I'm really looking forward to it.

Same Question -> I do not see a way to update the firmware on the G2 with a Mac.
Do I have to find a Windows machine to update it?

Yes, only a Windows machine can update the firmware on the HP dock.
