Hi everyone,

I recently purchased an M1 Mac mini and a Caldigit TS3+ dock. Connected to the dock via USB is a LaCie Rugged 5 TB hard drive that I use for Time Machine backups. I’ve noticed that when I turn off the Mac, the dock’s power light goes off and the LaCie drive also turns off. Then almost immediately, the LaCie drive turns on again and remains running, even though the computer is off.

I was hoping that when I turn off my computer, the devices connected to the dock would also turn off. It seems that the drive does get a shutdown command but then immediately powers back on. Interestingly, the Sandisk SSD connected to the same dock turns off and stays off.

Having never owned a dock before, I’m wondering if this this normal?

Thanks.

Not a direct answer to your question. But, I have a LaCie 2TB ruggered drive on my Windows PC. Same thing, the light on the drive remains on and the drive is 'ready', even when Windows is in sleep/hybernate mode.

My guess is that the drive doesn’t have a power switch. If it’s plugged into a port with power, it probably stays on.

Apologies for bringing this thread back up, but a google of this problem led me here and I'm hoping someone found a solution...

I have the same issue, I power down my mac, everything turns off except the external hard drives. I'd like to find a way to get around that. The only solution so far is to unplug the CalDigit TS3+...

I ended up plugging the CalDigit into a Philips Hue smart plug. This way I can shutdown the hub and everything connected to it with one push of a button or via my phone.
