Hello Everyone,

I just picked up a refurb'd M1 MacBook Air. I don't have any 'high demand' tasks I plan on doing with the laptop (just basic surfing, Netflix, YouTube, etc.), but was considering doing the Thermal Pad mod to just futureproof my usage a bit.

Is this still something people recommend doing in 2025? I see mixed reports that it can damage the battery due to the excess heat.

Any help / feedback / thoughts would be super appreciated. Thanks!

I wouldn't bother personally, not unless you think that it's having thermal issues or you find you're hammering the processor.

But no warranty issue, so if you're just looking for a fun project, go nuts!

I wouldn't bother personally. Those mods are basically just touted for YouTube clicks by tech YouTubers who don't understand a benchmark will never ever equate to real world usage.

Making your Macs internals run not as intended with a bodge-job mod doesn't sound a great futureproofing scheme.

My old M1 MBA still runs like a champ, even with it's paltry 8GB RAM.
