I am definitely not new to Macs, but this forum seemed to be the best place for my post.
Just got a new MBA-M1 to replace my last old non-retina model. Loved my old wedge but you gotta move on eventually.
It is still vanilla, with nothing loaded but Firefox and all Apple updates. The problem is that many sites (and major ones - CNN, ABCnews, etc) think I have an ad blocker and ask me to turn it off every time I hit their site. I assumed it was Firefox triggering the false indication, but still happens on Safari, but strangely, not necessarily on the same websites. Turned off everything in Preferences having to do with anti-track and such, without changing the symptoms. Next was the ISP for the possible culprit, but a trip to our favorite 'net coffee shop got exactly the same requests to turn off something I never loaded.
Interestingly, I do run Ghostery on my old Air, but get far fewer turn-it-off requests on it. That blocker is definitely not on the new Air - yet - unless it morphed itself over during the night.
Another point. I have an M1 Mini with the browsing locked down so tight that the electron screws are almost stripped and it gets far fewer turn off ad-blocker requests. And, supposedly, inside it is almost the same machine as the Air.
Anybody else see this happening?
