M1 MBA external monitor randomly goes black

Hi,
I have an M1 MBA running 11.6 using a HooToo USB-C hub that supports HDMI out. Occasionally, the external LG 34" ultrawide (WQHD) monitor will go dark but applications on the external monitor do not switch back to the MBA during this time. My mouse, keyboard, and external drive are all hooked up to this hub and continue to work. Roughly 5 seconds later it returns correctly. I'm wondering if anyone has seen this before?

Also, in an effort to eliminate the monitor and USB-C hub as culprits. I use this hub/monitor/keyboard/mouse 80% of the time with a windows 10 Dell laptop for work. I have never seen this behavior on that configuration.

I have a dell thunderbolt dock that did that which I need to use for work as well. It’s probably the dock. I got fed up with it eventually and bought a USB-C Displayport cable which works flawlessly on the second input in the monitor. Then I realised I don’t use the MBA as a laptop at all so sold it and bought a Mac mini 🤦‍♂️
