M1 MBA Thunderbolt port issue?

I got 2 of the base model M1 MacBook Air and encountered the following issue on both.

On bus 0 the MBA does not recognize a Satechi Thunderbolt/USB4 hub. It also does not recognize a 4k monitor (LG Ergo) even plugged in directly. Funny enough the battery charging through hub or monitor works.
All other external peripherals are properly recognized.

On bus 1 everything works properly, hub, monitor, no issues at all.

Is that a limitation of the base model?

My understanding is that both Thunderbolt ports on the M1 MBA are identical--one does not have additional/restricted functionality. But for you to have two M1 MBAs doing the exact same thing makes me wonder if my understanding is wrong.
