So I'm new to Macs/Mac OS. I've had my M1 MBP (8/512) for about a month. I love it. Except for one thing. Its form factor isn't tapered like the MBA, so you have a hard right-angled edge where your palms rest. One YouTube reviewer cautioned that this could cause discomfort for some. Bah, I said. Me. Want. This. Now. Sure enough, that hard edge has begun to drive me crazy. I'm tempted to return it for an MBA (whose performance would be just fine for my light-ish use), but was wondering if anyone has a) run into this with the MBP b) found the MBA easier on the resting palms.

I’ve been using MacBook Pros for years and I can’t say that I ever had any issue with the hard edges… my arms rest quite comfortably on them. People mention this problem from time to time, I guess it depends on your unique anatomy and habits.

I returned my Pro for an Air, but not because of the design. The Air with 16GB RAM is cheaper than the Pro with 8GB. To me, that's a bit of a no brainer unless someone really wants the Touch Bar, slightly better screen, and 1 more GPU core.

You don’t even have to sacrifice a GPU core if you don’t won’t to.

I find the Air much nicer to type on. On the other hand, I mostly use my Air in clamshell with an external keyboard, trackpad, and display.

Yeah, I was lured (and duped) by the promise that touchbar would be a lifestyle enhancement. Maybe for others. Not me.

Go for the air! Same performance, cheaper price! And you should also upgrade the RAM while you’re at it and maybe the storage as well.

Besides the great price, the wedge design was the other big reason I got the MBA. It makes typing much easier, your wrist don't get tired, and it feels more natural. The M1 was my first MBA, although I previously had the 12" MB (which I have again) with the same wedge design.

I previously had MBP's and it did take a little getting used to typing on them because your wrist are flexed upward while typing.

I hate typing with my palms resting on anything, so I've never even noticed. :)
palms off the computer or desk is the correct posture for touch typing. When I first got a retina MBP (2013 model) I was surprised how sharp the edges of the case felt on my palms - I soon learned to adopt a "lifted-wrist, fingers down" technique, which is actually much better anatomically to avoid putting strain on your wrist tendons, which can lead to repetitive strain injuries.

First world problems. Back in my day, I used to type on a Commodore 64, or an Atari 800 (those were rancid to type on). I haven't gotten my MBP yet. I'm using a Dell Inspiron 15 7000 Gaming laptop at the moment, waiting for my MBP to arrive. Looking forward to typing on it. Maybe in a month, I may change my mind but gimme gimme gimme.

The M1 is worth the wait. :D It's like finding your long lost love.
