Anyone know of anything, app, widget, ulitlity that will display the proper fan status. On, Off and Speed? I have iStat Menu Items and Widgetter and both display the fan running between 1675 and 1725 depending on loads at all times. I can put a pretty heavy load and its the same. Now its either put my hand behind it or put some strips of paper that would move that I could see waving. I've yet to know if the fan has ever come on.

Note: The Mini's case only gets 5-6 degrees warmer than ambient air temps.

M1 Mac Mini? The fans barely rev up when I export 4K videos for an hour. Those fan speeds don't look unusual.

I may be mistaken but I heard/read somewhere that it uses convection cooling and under heavy loads the fan will come on.
Not sure about that.

I do processor intensive work daily. Today I just exported 4K videos for an hour and didn't notice the fans spin faster.

I also do Youtube live streaming which really really demanding on the processor, and the fans also don't spin any faster. I used to have the 2018 Mac Mini and the fans would be at full speed when I'm exporting videos or Youtube live streaming.

I've not tried exporting videos while live streaming on Youtube though.

After much more searching Im going to say that it is supposed to always be on and my speeds are normal. It seems like just due to how quiet it is and how little air flow it normally produces that many think its not on at all. I've yet to hear or feel the air coming out the back exhaust port.
If I do find something with authority that says that it does shut off, I will post it back here.

Yes, it is always on, just very low RPM most of the time — unlike the Intel-centric Macs. ☺️

I’ve only had my M1 mini heat up when using Handbrake; otherwise, it gently exhausts cool air. Even then, the fan noise and heat don't come close to that of my 2012 mini.
