I'm trading in my M1 MacBook Air and I'm curious about the proper steps to take prior?

I read the Apple support page and that says if you're using a Mac with Apple silicon just to "Erase All Content and Settings".

However, I always thought you had to deauthorize the machine to remove it from your account so it's ready for the next person, turn off find my, sign out of iCloud, sign out of Messages, etc.

Does "Erase All Content and Settings" now do all those steps for you or should you still do all those manually prior to "Erase All Content and Settings"?

Thanks.

First go into settings, and click at the top of the left side where it shows your Apple ID account. Click there and then scroll down to sign out. It will go through a process to sign out of your iCloud, iMessage, etc, as well as "find my". Once that is done, click settings, and erase all content. It will begin deleting the Mac. Once that is done it goes to a recovery page. You'll have to click on the wifi and sign back in to your wifi, and once it connects, it will let you restart your computer. Sounds complicated but very easy

It takes care of deauthorizing you now.. but I often do it manually anyway. Can’t hurt.

They're really simplified this in recent years. Used to be a whole process, and now it's just a few clicks.
