With Apple's MacBook Pro event only a weekend away, I thought it would be interesting to see which name MacRumors forum members think Apple will give their new chip: M1X or M2?

Although I see the chip persistently referred to as the M1X in most articles and discussions, I personally find it hard to believe that Apple will give their latest chip in their flagship laptop line of computers an also-ran name like M1X. It sounds like a just slightly improved version of their M1 chip in their consumer grade MacBook Air and small iMac.

Apple hasn't been shy to lay down a brand new whole number for their annual flagship iPhone chips, now all the way up to the A15. It has been a full year since they launched the M1, so I am betting they're going to name Monday's new chip the M2.

What's your bet?

If Apple releases the new redesigned high-end MacBook Pro or other high-end models, while keeping the MacBook Air and other M1 models intact, then it will probably be M1X. But who knows? It may call it the M1Z or something else.

With the headliner being "unleashed" id bet its going to be the M1's unleashed full potential aka M1X.
