My Mac M2 has has started to give out a short series of fast beeps on startup while the display is still
black. Everything seems to be working OK but what would be causing this ?

Thanks.

If your Mac beeps during startup

Certain conditions related to memory or firmware might cause your Mac to beep once or more during startup.

On some Mac models, you might hear one of these sequences of beeps at the beginning of the startup process, while the screen is still blank. These are not the same as the startup sound (chime) that a Mac can play when starting up normally.

One beep every 5 seconds

Your Mac isn't detecting any memory (RAM). If you recently added or replaced memory, make sure that it's properly installed.

Three beeps, then a 5-second pause, repeating

The memory in your Mac didn't pass an integrity check. If you added or replaced memory, make sure that it's properly installed.

Three long beeps, three short, then three long

To resolve a firmware issue, your Mac is restoring its firmware. You might see a progress bar, after which your Mac should start up normally.

None of those describe the beeps I get, mine are like a fast series of fairtly quiet as in bip bip bip bip.

After a few more cold bootups, I have found out where these beeps are coming from.
If I do not turn on my second display all is OK, no beeps, then if I turn on the second
display after a short while the beeps come from the display,

It's always the unknowns that drive us mad.

I started to hear random, quiet "doot-doot-doot" tones from my phone a few years ago. Nothing made any sense (I couldn't tell if it was coming from the phone, or the watch). Ends-up, it was a "rain is coming" notification from an app I installed.

Lately, I've been having BT dis-connects from my phone while at work. I have a desktop thin-client for Institution compute, and a laptop for School District compute. I also have a BT Speaker that I use with my phone for Class background ambiance.

I can stream music from my phone to the BT speaker just fine, until I wake the laptop (a newer Dell XPS unit) . . . the BT connection to my KB/Mouse seems to interfere, and repeatedly stops the streaming; mostly when the Dell P2715Q (attached via HDMI, and no speakers) to the laptop is active.

I also have a few TB/USB4 externals (at home) connected to my Studio, and R/W's sometimes are subtly shared with my Roland MA-8's

RF interference is a real thing, and not everything is adequately shielded.

I use three Dell P2715Q's with my Studio, and they are connected via DP

I don't know how you connect your 2nd display, but you could either try DP, or change Settings > Sound > Sound Effects > Output & Input to another Output?

At least you've diagnosed it to something sensible (if not frustrating) :)

This issue now has an answer, the cause was the HDMI three into one switch, it works, just make makes my second display beep at atart up.
