Ok. Pretty heated right now.

I have 2 4k displays that I wanted to hook my M2 Macbook Air to. I know that Apple has arbitrarily and infuriatingly limited the display output of the M2 to one display, so I bought an OWC Thunderbolt 4 dock due to it advertising dual 4k external displays @ 60hz. No freaking dice.

"No matter", I think...I assumed that I could download DisplayLink and make it all work. Again, no freaking dice. DisplayLink software doesn't find the dock.

WHAT IN THE WORLD do I need to do in order to achieve what is supposed to be a very simple task?

Well, you can give this a try.
https://www.amazon.com/HyperDrive-Dual-HDMI-MacBook-10in1/dp/B09NBS9DS6 (I'm not affiliated with the link)

This is a funny product. The "driver" to make the secondary HDMI port to work, resides inside the hub. So you can just install it, and wha~la~~ there, you just hacked your MacBook Air, where it was limited at 2 display at M1 & M2 chip level (1 for laptop screen in your case, 1 for external), but now you're getting 2 display outputs.

Cheers~~~

Thanks for the reply and the tip...I guess I thought that's what I was doing when I bought the OWC dock and attempted to use DisplayLink. Sadly the linked dock won't solve my problem as I'm wanting to drive 2x 4k displays at 60hz and it looks like it won't do that.

You need to search for a DisplayLink dock specifically. Something like this: https://plugable.com/products/usbc-6950pdz
You can use these in conjunction with a regular dock like the one you bought already- connect the OWC dock to your computer, connect 1 display to the OWC dock, and connect the DisplayLink adapter with the other display to the OWC.
You will need DisplayLink drivers installed to use the DisplayLink adapter.

you need to give that product a try.
The “driver” in the dongle, would give you 2 additional display on your MacBook Air. You will end up having 3 displays (Laptop + 2x 4K external)
