I can plan a Maps route when I'm home on my WIFI LAN.
Maps shows my current location and routes to the locations in my Guide.
If I turn off the WIFI I lose access to my current location.
I can local hotspot pair to my iPad cell network and recover access to my location.
Since I don't have cellular access on the MBA do I not even have GPS receiver?

I'll bet there's a clumsy adapter I can attach with just a GPS receiver...

I might try to pair with car's GPS navigation antenna by Bluetooth...

Macs do not have GPS built in. Your cellular iPad does, why not just use that?
