Just curious if anyone has been having any issues with their M2 Pro Mac minis? I have had mine gone into firmware recovery mode twice now in as many months. Genius Bar have not been able to recover and have had to replace the logic board both times. I usually leave it in sleep mode and will randomly go and use it and it will be off, makes the booting chime when I turn it on and start flashing the amber light of death. I use a good UPS/surge protector so cannot see that being the issue.

No problems here. Just wondering if there's an issue with your power source. Do you have regular blackouts or fluctuating current?

No blackouts or power surges, and it and several other sensitive devices i.e. NAS are hooked into the same backup power source/surge protector which alerts me if there has been a surge or power interruption. May just be bad luck, apple techs didn’t really have a guess.

It’s certainly worrisome when the replacement logic board failed in the same manner. I haven’t encountered problems with my M2 Pro Mac Mini. It’s also plugged into an uninterruptible power supply. However, I don’t permit my Mini to sleep ever.

I had the same thing happen to my Mac Mini M2. Took it to Genius Bar on July 2, they replaced the logic board and I got it back about a week or so later. This morning I had the same thing, the orange "SOS" LED. Taking it back to Genius Bar later today.

Knock on wood mine has been good since the second replacement

Had mine first repaired just inside 1 year warranty this february, then logic board died in may again, so I would not buy this Mac again or recommend anyone to buy it.
Apple didn't agree to offer any discount or didn't admit that the device is defective, so the price quote for logic board replacement outside of warranty was about 770 EUR.
And because of this strange logic board issue I didn't agree to repair the Mac even though I desperately need a computer...

Luckily I bought the 3yrs of AppleCare+ within the 15 days of the second repair(also within warranty) so I wouldn’t have to worry about it for a few years atleast anyway. But still not looking good for longevity.

I am going thru the same thing with my M1 purchased in 2021.

Been in repair twice and the second time they replaced the logic board. Now dead again and I’ve only had it back a week.

What in the hell is wrong with these things?

Had a 2009 iMac that lasted me till 2021 and finally croaked. So then I bought this. No idea what to do now. Power light just flashes on and off and screen never shows anything.

Should I dump this piece of crap and go back to iMac?

I've purchased 8 Macs going right back to 1999. Some like my 2018 i7 mini, and the new M2 mini Pro have so far been flawless from day one and never given problems, while others like a 2009 Mac Pro and a 2017 MacBook Pro had major issues within the first month. They were repaired more than once, but never right, and eventually replaced under warranty.

In the case of the MacBook Pro, the logic board went within the first month and was replaced. Over the next few months practically everything imaginable went wrong with that machine and I eventually forced Apple to get it replaced, though it took far more effort than should have been required.

The first time your logic board failed, you maybe have to give Apple a chance to fix it, but with the second time I would be demanding a replacement without hesitation, given that you cannot rely on it. The simple fact you are posting here suggests the repair times have placed an unreasonable interference on your usage
and enjoyment of the computer.

If you find anything that doesn't work as expected from now on, push for a new computer with no ifs or buts. In both cases mentioned above, the replacement computers were perfect. Sometimes they come out of the factory wrong and no amount of repairs will fix them. We used to call them lemon products.

It’s past time one and two. It’s dead three times now from an authorized repair place and they couldn’t care less about it. So I will contact AppleCare tomorrow. I hope I do not have to be forceful to get it replaced because that is the only acceptable option at this point.

Thanks for your reply.
