I just transferred 2 mpeg 2 videos over to my new iMac. They work fine on my powerbook but on the iMac Quicktime comes up with the error "-2408" that is not a file that quicktime understand. Any ideas?

quicktime can't decode mpeg2 by default. You need to install the mpeg 2 component, which is $30 from apple, or free with something like DVD Sudio Pro.

I have that QuickTime MPEG-2 component, and I can't open them either. It's just not a feature yet. Either that or it's just me. But I've got a fresh install of Tiger, QuickTime 7 Pro, and the MPEG-2 component.

what do you want to use quicktime for anyway? Just use mplayer.

Mplayer just has that "open source" cheapness to it. The interface is sloppy, and the controls and features are weak. But hey, I guess it plays mpeg-2 files.
