I need help choosing between this 2 machines for video editing and photo editing:
APPS: Davinci, premiere pro, after effects, photoshop and Lightroom.
.
M3 Max 16” 48gb Ram 1tb (16core CPU, 40core GPU)
.
M4 Max 16” 36gb Ram 1tb (14core CPU, 32core GPU)

Looks like an easy choice--at least to my eyes: M3. You're sure numbers are not the other way around?

I posted the same on Chat gpt. But it choose the m4, and am confused, wether the information is true or not
I just asked Grok and it picked the M3 because “the extra RAM and GPU cores provide a noticeable edge for DaVinci Resolve’s Fusion, After Effects, and Lightroom’s AI Denoise”.

It also said check benchmarks on YouTube for those apps. AI can come to weird conclusions sometimes so it’s always good to double check.

I recently faced the same choice. If both had been available side by side at the same price, I would probably have chosen the M4 Max. However, I came across an M3 Max at a very good price and decided to buy it. Of course, I have no regrets. These are comparable machines.
On one hand, the M4 Max is probably slightly faster in most applications (even though it’s the "binned" version), but in practice, you likely won’t notice much difference — with one exception: the M4 Max has a much faster Neural Engine.
On the other hand, the additional 12GB of memory in the M3 Max can be a big advantage if you use a lot of programs at once, or work with software like After Effects, Blender, and large 3D scenes.
