These M5 snobs are going to be flooding into our iMac forum sanctuary once they get their hands on their devices.

iMac owners... I urge you to hold the line and resist the temptations and lust that will occur within you for the M5!

Keep your M4s and learn contentment! Do not trade-in, sell, or give it to little Johnny for that upgrade!

Benchmarks aren't everything and the M4 iMac is eternal! Especially in yellow!

Whose with me?!

Now, I had not expected a rallying cry like this. Albeit I agree the yellow looks pretty good.
Let me see... oh, I have the iMac Pro. It was only offered in one colour, so that's what I have, Space Gray...

I think you're preaching to the wrong crowd. For normal consumers, the majority of them will not be tempted, or concerned about the M5. For MacRumor's members who are tech enthusiasts, far too many of members will upgrade annually if the next gen CPU offers significant improvements and I think the GPU on the M5 does just that.

I own a M4 Max, and believe you, me, I know when Apple comes out with the M5 Max Studio (or even ultra), I will be tempted. My only saving grace, is that I'm poor as a church mouse :)

My friend! You are a brave, strong man! Someone who all of us Apple silicon iMac owners aspire to be. HOLD THE LINE and never surrender your iMac!!!

Do not waste your money! The iMac lives on! From the G3 to the M4, we will WIN THIS WAR! The best PC of all time, now underrated, but never deflated, the legend lives!

eh.... what apple release has no bearing on my 3 year upgrade cycle, unless its some trash like the butterfly keyboard in which case i will postpone.

but normally when N+3 comes around the machine i'm using goes to the GF and her old machine is rotated out.

Most people who come here don't know an M5 from an M&M.
They don't come close to needing one. Besides, faster and slower mean little at the speed of light.

It would take a lot more than a minor spec bump to make me upgrade a Mac I've had less than a year. If they released one with a 27" display, that might move the needle, but pure speed is not an issue with my M4 iMac for what I'm using it for.

In fact, you could plop onto my desk a Mac Pro with some as-yet-unreleased M5 Ultra processor and an 8 TB SSD and it would be nothing to me but some expensive eye candy. An Illustrator file would open in 1.5 seconds instead of 5 seconds? Uhh, ok, sure, whatever. (Yes, I'm aware there are people with much more demanding workflows, but that's not where I'm at.)

Agree! By the way, I am still using a 27" 2019 iMac for light phone editing, and there is no way for me to buy a new iMac with a 24" screen. I am not longer interested in the iMac, regardless if it has a 27" screen. I was quite surprised when I opened the box and looked at the 27" BenQ 5k monitor because it seemed to be smaller than the 27" iMac. Then I realized that the BenQ monitor (screen) does not have the large black frame like the iMac has, and that's why it looks horizontally and vertically smaller. :)

I had the 27" iMac 5K as well. I will admit that the 24" felt a little small at first, but I have very much gotten used to it myself. There are a few uses where I could use a bit more space though.

I need to upgrade my 27 inch iMac that I bought in 2020, just before M1 came out. I had to buy then for faculty discount as I was retiring.

I may go to the Mac studio because I don't think I can get used to a smaller monitor. I really wish they hadn't discontinued the 27 inch monitor because I love the screen size.
