I have a 57” Samsung monitor that runs at 7680x2160 with my PC but my m1 MacBook Pro doesn’t support that higher resolution so looks terrible if I hook it up.
Does anyone know if the new m4 Mac Studio max will work ok on the 57” monitor and can support 7680x2160 properly?

Is 7680x2160 the resolution you would choose for the UI? That's two 4K displays side by side. Can you choose a 3840x2160 mode with black bars on the sides? Or can you choose a dual 3840x2160 picture by picture mode which behaves as two displays? Is the Mac UI usable with 2160 vertical resolution or would you prefer something less?

If something less, then there would be two options for each resolution:
a lores mode: e.g. 5120x1440 which would be scaled up to 7680x2160
a HiDPI mode: 5120x1440 HiDPI = 10240x2880 which would be scaled down to 7680x2160.
The former might be possible. The latter probably requires changes from Apple or you would have to use the virtual screen option from BetterDisplay.

Yes, it s the same as dual 4k monitors and I want to use it as just one, big screen as that's what I'm used too.
7680x2160 is the monitors native resolution and while the PPI (140ppi) isn't as good as an Apple display, text clarity is much better than many other monitors I've used which tend be around 110ppi.
I don't want to split it in half as that defeats the point of the monitor and having no bezels or edges in the center is a game changer.

Yes, I have the same monitor and an M4 Max Studio and can get 7680x2160@120Hz over a USB-C to DP cable. Make sure the monitor is on the newest firmware and DP2.1 mode. Personally I didn’t like using it as one giant screen as much as I thought I would and went back to using it as two 4K@120 monitors side by side. Having a >4ft long menu bar wasn’t so productive.

Edit: Just moved to a single 7680x2160@120Hz display, it may be easier overall. With the dual 4K@120 side-by-side setup, after each update (and sometimes just after restarting) I would have to change all my settings regarding monitor position, resolution, color profile, etc. The 4ft menu bar isn't so bad afterall lol.

I have a 49inch Neo G9 (5120-1440) and got my M4 Max a few weeks ago and I initially had issues.

Was using it with an 8k hdmi cable and was having a flickering issue when there was a change in contrast and weird diagonal lines strangely showing up. (same issue as this person on this post: Mac Mini M1 + G9 = occasional flickering). It was really annoying, i previously was using the monitor with my 2019 intel macbook pro through a Caldigit TS4 and never had this issue. Seems its maybe an issue with the (49inch) G9 and Apple silicon macs.

I tried multiple cables, diff 8k hdmi cables, hdmi-to-thunderbolt, displayport-to-thunderport cable and kept having the same issue. Until finally got a 16k displayport-to-thunderport cable seems to have fixed the issue.

It works but I had to raise up the black uniformity up to 17-18 if I didnt want a weird slight sudden change brightness/flickering (much less than before but still noticeable) when switching between windows (specifically dark windows). So far, raising the black uniformity seems to have completely fixed the issue but idk, I only finally got it to stop acting up a few days ago. Will keep u guys posted if it comes back.

I really wonder if this is also an issue on the 57 inch model (7680x2160). If this issue doesn't exist on this model, I will definitly switch to that monitor.

Curious to know if u ever noticed a occasional flicker to the brightness when using the 57inch and the M4 Max, (similar to this Mac Mini M1 + G9 = occasional flickering)

Are u getting 60, 120 or 240hz? And would you happen to know if you are using a 8k or 16k usb c to DP cable?

Thank you, just wondering because I am having issues with my 49inch neo g9.

Thank you.

I haven’t noticed any flickering, and am on 120Hz with a usb-c to DP 1.4 cable currently. I did also try a certified DP2.1 80Gbps cable but didn’t see any difference so I stayed with what I had.
