Does anyone know if a Thunderbolt 5 dock, connected to a M4 Max MacBook Pro 14" can drive 2, or maybe 3 120hz 4k monitors? I'm looking to connect 4 120hz 4k monitors to the MacBook Pro, but want to keep at least one of the thunderbolt ports free for USB peripherals etc, or if I can use a Thunderbolt dock, that'll help as it will have some USB ports.

Thanks!

Short answer: Two, not three, as Apple has limited it to two monitor streams per port with a TB5 dock.

You can connect four external monitors, but only to a M4 Max MBP, either with two connected to a TB5 hub/dock, or without a dock but using the HDMI port, but then you don't have additional TB5 ports for data.

M4 and M4 Pro can only manage three.
(Unless you use DisplayLink...)

Thanks. Do you know if it's theoretically possible then to have 2x Thunerbolt docks connected to the MBP 14" M4 max at the same time, to drive 4x 120hz 4k displays? That way I could still have a TB5 port free?

Yes, look at the video link at 17 minutes in. He had a slight glitch, then it worked fine,
Two docks connected, four monitors, and a spare TB5 port on the MBP, and one each on the TB5 docks = 3.
