hi all

does anyone know why my m4 Mac mini (base model), connected to the apple studio display, is not displaying the 3200x1800 resolution option? is this related to the m4 issue ive read about? unclear to me?

the same monitor plugged into my Mac Studio displays 3200x1800.

Not sure…..my M4 Pro displays that res with my ASD. Did you try to change the res? Is the preset set for Apple Display?

I’ve restarted yep. Deleted the .plist file of resolutions as well. I’m wondering if base model supports a different resolution? Really at a loss here…

Yes, according to other posters here, the M4 Pro has more resolution options available than the M4, for resolution options higher than the default 2X integer scaled resolution. However, the M4 seems to offer the same resolution options as the M4 Pro for those lower than the default 2X integer scaled resolution.

I'm not sure why this is the case though, since the M4's upgraded GPU should be able to handle those higher resolutions.

But not sure if the pro has more options because of a bug or because it’s by design. Just can’t figure out if this machine should be returned.

If you want to use those higher resolutions, I would return the M4. Correct me if I'm wrong, but IIRC, the M1-M2 didn't offer those either.

Have you tried a different cable?
I can't see how a cable would make any difference. For these HiDPI resolutions, AFAIK, the resolution presented to the monitor is always the native monitor resolution. When you choose a non-integer HiDPI resolution setting in macOS, it takes that resolution and then multiplies it by 2, and then it downscales (or upscales) it back to the native resolution. Then it sends that final result to the monitor. All the monitor ever sees is its native resolution.
