M4 Pro - what's the point of energy mode?

Hi,

If I've it set to automatic and I'm going to use a program that uses 100% of the CPU, will it switch to high power mode automatically?
When setting it to high power you can see the icon in top taskbar, but if you set it to auto it dissapears.

It’s mostly focused on Macbooks and I’m still not sure if when using CPU intensive software is it going to use max power.

Also if I set it to high power, will it eat more energy while doing basic tasks?

I've found an option to have it always in the top bar, activating high power mode doesn't seem to change temps or fan speed when just browsing in Safari.

Browsing in Safari (mostly) requires little processor load. Load it up a bit. What happens to temperatures (with and without high power mode) when you use your photo stacking software (PixInsight?)? And time to complete?
