I have a ringtone file that I'm trying to convert to a text message alert. I've attempted converting it to mp3 using Switch audio converter and it ends up turning the six second alert into 20+ seconds of silence. iTunes' "convert to aiff" under Advanced is grayed out when I select it.

Any suggestions?

How about duplicating the file and renaming it back to m4a. Then import into iTunes and see if you can now convert it.
