Hi all,

I have a few movies in a m4v format which my ATV2 is refusing to load after i have updated to 4.1. I have watched one already so i know the files work, they work and QT and in iTunes. the are dolby 5.1 too.

I get the progress bar and the spinning icon then it just sits there. i can scroll around etc but is does not play.

I did see a post about the audio mucking things up but i am stumped at this point.

Any ideas people?

I was having this problem last night and found that the troublesome M4V files would play if I re-encoded them with 2.0 audio instead of 5.1 :-/

What did you use to re-encode them. My PB would take days to re-encode 6 full HD movies : (

Is it possible to just do the sound?

EDIT
So i got MKVtools but it is telling it only processes MKV and OGM files?

How do you get it to recognize M4V files?

Thanks

I used MKVtools. You can tell it to leave the video alone and just do the audio. On my 2.8GHz iMac with 4GB ram it takes less than 10 minutes to process a 1 hour long MKV.

Found a solution!!

Thanks for everybodies replies.

Found a solution mentioned on another thread which has work so far on the files i have tested. It is by far the easiest i came across which does not require any re-encoding. I am not going to pretend i know what it does but it works.

Download Subler http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/31647/subler

Optimise file (from file menu, there is no GUI buttton)

Now should file should work.

You can change the metadata while your there also.

Hope this helps!!
