The M4 is where it is at. Because this was the time that Apple actually updated the hardware of the iPad itself.

The M5 will be nothing more than a spec bump and that is something not worth paying for.

at what point will folks realize WiFi 7's bottle neck is not the speed of it's signal, but the slowness of 99% of the servers out there. sure, if all I wanted to do was connect to my own network device to device maybe WiFi 7 would offer an advantage.. but otherwise, not really. Apple Streaming wont be any faster. etc.

Based on history, it might become heavier again, if not thicker. No thanks.

I’ve transitioned ALL my gear to 2.5Gig since 5Gig is too expensive both monthly and equipment wise. And WiFi is key.

And the real life benefit is? Again my point is any sustained benefit is local network and unless you are trying to edit 4k off your SSd server via WiFi I am going to say BS. In the nicest sense.

Edit: oh wait this thread is about an iPad, Apple’s premier 8k video editing system, of course you need WiFi 7. Sorry! My bad.

I’m a professional artist, and my 2018 iPad Pro is still going strong! These things last forever. The OLED screen & Apple Pencil Pro support of the current M4 iPad Pros are tempting, but i just bought a new iPhone 16 Pro Max & iPad mini 7 for digital sketching on the go. So i’ll probably wait for the M5 iPad Pros. My 2018 iPad Pro will hold me over well until then. And when i do upgrade to an M5 iPad Pro, that thing will probably last me another 10 years! 👍🏼

Now seriously, I’m really curious about what Apple has in store for iPadOS 19 and 20. Apparently iOS 19 is going to be a minor update so maybe they focus on the iPad experience next year…
 
The M4 iPad Pros only just came out in May of 2024. I wouldn’t expect the M5 iPad Pros (or whatever the next ones will be called) to be announced until Fall of 2025 at the earliest. Most likely Spring of 2026. But who knows. All I know is that my 2018 iPad Pro is still going strong. As an artist, I am tempted by the OLED screen & Apple Pencil Pro support… but I don’t mind waiting. My 2018 iPad Pro is still the best drawing tablet I’ve ever owned. It edits photos & videos without a hiccup as well. It also is my favorite media consumption device. I did just buy an iPad mini 7 for when I really want to travel light. So I am set for awhile.

Being that 16GB of RAM is now the official Mac Apple standard. The next iteration of Apple Silicon iPads will have 16 GB and 24GB RAM options. No more 256GB. 16GB on 512 GB & 1TB. 2TB to 4TB get 24GB

[Unless Apple moves to 12GB and 16GB to keep the 256 & 512GB costs]

Phones and iPads will have 8GB ram standard for quite a bit. Apple AI is goign to optimize for compatibility, bank on that.
