I use my iPads mainly for taking notes so I use a screen protector to get a feeling similar to paper. I bought this screen protector and I immediately noticed that the display became grainy. I bought this same brand for my M2 iPad Pro but I don't recall the screen being this grainy. I had already traded in my M2 iPP so I can do an A-B testing.

Has anyone noticed anything similar with this particular brand or even others? Or is this related more to the OLED panel on the M4 and M5 iPads?

I just got my M5 iPP delivered on Tuesday so I'm still in the return period.

I use Ambison matte glass screen protectors. They don’t feel exactly like paper but they aren’t as slippery as the bare screen and they don’t make the screen look grainy. I also swap out the pencil tip for a softer one. I’ve tried several brands from Amazon, I’m not sure what I have one each of my Apple pencils, but all are softer and a little “grippier” than the stock tip.

I bought a different brand of screen protector and I'm having the same problem. I think it may have to do with an OLED panel because I didn't experience this at all on my 2022 M2 and my 2018 iPP either.

Does anyone have experience purchasing an iPad from the Apple Refurbished store? Are those products restocked returns or iPads people have traded in?

I have tried many screen protectors, and to be honest the only one that is not grainy is Paperlike. But it's definitely not the one the feels the most like paper. And it's very expensive. And it's not great with reflections, but it's the only one that is not grainy.

Have you tried rock paper pencil? Been using it since version 1 now on version 3, BTW its removable, and I love the pencil grips it comes with along with the thinner point for the pencil.

I had a paper feel type protector on my 2020 iPad, went for the same on my M4 and immediately noticed graining. I assume because the OLED is a better screen it’s more noticeable. I went to a clear protector on the M4 as it spoiled the fantastic screen for me.

Same I tried two from Astropad from the v2 and v3, as well as some cheaper ones from ESR they're all garbage. The only two that I liked was the one from Paperlike 3 and one I had installed for me while I was in Asia. I think its this one:

The Mothca doesn't have the paper like feel when drawing/writing but image quality is great and it has the added protection of tempered glass. Unfortunately the coating they used tend to wear really quickly and it developed some deep grooves within months. The Paperlike 3's install was a bit daunting, and they had to send me another set but by the 3rd install it was finally perfect. The Paperlike 3 probably felt the most premium of all of the screen protectors I purchased. The picture quality is perfect and their customer service is top notch.
