Still using my early 2011 13”!Probably January ‘26 like the M2 Pro release. Then the M6 refresh will come in October ‘26 with 2nm and OLED, thinner design.
That’s my prediction anyway. If you’re waiting to upgrade, unless you’re still on Intel I’d hold out for fall 2026.
Oh dear! Hit the referb store for an M2 or M3 then, it will be light years ahead of what you have.Still using my early 2011 13”!
yeah, i have been in a holding pattern since the M3 came out. then i heard good things about the M4. my 2011 is getting too old. the usb ports don't function, some keys don't respond (i use an A1314 bluetooth keyboard), sometimes the bluetooth goes off and i need to reboot. Age related stuff! The super drive works, and i use it for stuff. the battery depletes in about an hour! needless to say, ready for a replacement. at this point, was waiting for the M5 to be announced/released, then make my choice. i could probably do fine with the base M4 with 16/512.Oh dear! I think Apple's opened up a lane for the Pros to stay pro, especially re-committed with the iPhone Pro.I am really looking forward to the M5 based on the iPad results. I currently have an M4 Max 14" 14/32. I am desperately in need of more RAM so I can run larger models. I even thought of trading in now for an unbinned 16" M4 Max 16/40 but that would be silly. I really miss my 16" M3 Pro I traded for this, but it was a time where I really needed the M4 Max, extra ram and couldn't justify the extra cost to stay with a 16". This thing is so loud all the time with 3 displays connected and chugging along through dev work and running LLMs. Memory pressure and swap are bad. I also game a lot on it too so extra GPU horsepower wouldn't hurt. I'll probably end up waiting for the OLED one. I am just really scared they are going to pull a 2016 and screw everything up again. Part of me wants to get the M5 Max 16" because there is a chance it'll be the last "good one" for another 5-6 years like how the ones prior to 2016 were before 2021. I use HDMI port every day and SD card slot. Terrified they will remove those things.
Normally my advice would be to just get whatever's current (M4) and leave it at that vs. waiting. On the other hand, if you're planning to use your next Mac for another 14 years maybe you do need the M5 🤣yeah, i have been in a holding pattern since the M3 came out. then i heard good things about the M4. my 2011 is getting too old. the usb ports don't function, some keys don't respond (i use an A1314 bluetooth keyboard), sometimes the bluetooth goes off and i need to reboot. If I were in your shoes, I'd get a refurbished M1 MBP now for around $800, then sell it in a year for maybe $500 and get a brand new M6 MBP. No way I would buy a new M5 with not only M6 2nm but likely OLED and redesign coming only months later. MBP hasn't yet changed significantly since M1. Same design, screen and sound. Only difference is incremental hardware improvements, which you likely don't need if you're still getting by on an Intel MBP. M1 remains a capable machine for most users, that's what I have and I'm keeping it at least until M6 dropsWhy is Apple launching the M5 and M6 so close together, it makes no sense? We should be able to order the M5 now if the M6 is coming inside of 12 months? I badly need to upgrade an Intel MBP, and this is frustrating and bizarre timing by Apple. Maybe I should just grab an M4?

No, Apple doesn't go that far back with their refurbs. No need to trust anyone if you go with a reputable vendor like Newegg or Amazon, that offers 30 days or so to return for a full refund. That's how I got my M1 refurb about a year ago, haven't had any issues with it since. If you get an M1, make sure to get a "late" 2021 MBP, not the "early" one from before the design refresh. Easy way to know the difference is that the early ones come in 13- and 15-inch sizes, while the late ones come in 14- and 16-inch sizes. Or you could spend a little more and get an M2. Might be the way to go if you plan to resell within a year or 2, as you'd get back most of the price difference with the higher resell value.does apple refurb stock m1 models? not sure i trust other parties.
