Have you looked in System Preferences?

Go to system preferences and see if it shows up. If it is just open it and click "show status in menu bar" and you are good as new.

If is it nowhere to be seen on the list of preferences - run a system report via "About this mac" and see if it lists bluetooth anywhere on the list. If it doesn't it is possible the bluetooth controller is defective and would need to get repaired (which may be difficult or impossible given the age of your mac).

It is possible that your Airport/Bluetooth board might be bad. If this is the case then,

for 13 inch here is the link for a replacement board: https://www.ifixit.com/Store/Mac/Ma...-Mid-2012-AirPort-Bluetooth-Board/IF108-002-1

for 11 inch here is the link for a replacement board: https://www.ifixit.com/Store/Mac/Ma...-Mid-2012-AirPort-Bluetooth-Board/IF108-002-1

Price is US $59.99

thank you Macdctr. hope it,s not the replacement board!! like to try this out : https://support.apple.com/de-de/HT204063 will it only reset the NVRAM ?? ( a bit scared to press the buttons)

Resetting NVRAM won't damage what is in your computer storage if that's what you're worried about.

I do this with my laptops from time to time.
