I haved a really quick question about using a .Mac alias in Mail. I would like to be able to send from an alias using Mail. Is this possible? Is it also possible to set up the color coding in Mail too?

Thanks

I hate being away from my Mac at work...

Can't you at least use rules in Mail (Mail->Preferences->Rules) to color your .Mac alias messages?

yes and yes!

In the interim between my post and responses, I warped Mail into letting me send out via my alias. Since it is a functioning address, I set it up as a Pop account and off I go.

Now, I will see about the coloring. Then, I will work on that whole issue about getting two of each email.

Mail->Preferences...->Rules.
Add Rule.
Type in a description.
Add condition: [To][Contains][your_alias@mac.com].
Perform the action: [Set Color][of background][your color choice]

What he said. ;)

Okay. So, now I have my email to be checked and sent and in the color I desire. However, it is pulling two emails off for everything sent to my Mac account.

You can use and alias, just setup a new IMAP account that has your alis_name@mac.com but uses your username that you originally signed up with for logging into the mail and smtp servers. It does produce twice as much mail, thats the problem. Anyone have any idea how to make this stop.

I did that, and it did not seem to work.

Once you set the rule did you go to Mailbox (in the menu bar) and select Apply Rules? I don't think the rulel will be applied to the message already in your inbox but once you download new messages it should (at least that was the case with me).

Note that Message->Apply Rules only runs rules on the selected messages - you need to select your whole Inbox, for example, then run the rules.
