Mac and Xserver Raid Array Issues

Has anyone experienced intermiitent hangs when using an Apple Mac ( 10.2 ) and the Xserve Raid ( raid level 50 ) system???

Symptons are ..
after a lot of file copying onto the mounted raid device the Mac no longer 'sees' the external array. The only way out it to reboo the mac. There are no error lights or faults reported on the Raid.
