Mac App Store Updates Not Workingq

My Mac App Store apps are having issues when they are trying to update. I click the update button, but the download never initiates. The button changes to the download circle icon with the stop button in the middle, but it just sits there forever. I have a red badge notification on my App Store. Does anyone else have this issue or know of a fix?
