I am trying to tidy things up on iMac running Ventura before transferring to new Mac Mini
If I click on Macintosh HD> Applications I get one set of applications, but if I click on Mackintosh HD- Data, I get a different, much smaller set of applications, some of which I thought I had uninstalled.
I would appreciate advice on what is happeng here

Apps can be in either place. The best place to see all of your apps is in Finder > Applications. That's the whole set.

I drag the applications folder (Finder > Applications) to the dock to the left of the Downloads folder in the dock.

Perhaps I didn't go far enough in explaining what I have, in order to get an understanding of what I can do to declutter before transferring to the new Mac Mini.
On opening the folder on the Mackintosh HD drive, I have 80 applications and these appear to be the same as those on Launchpad or Finder>Applications.
However, when I open the Mackintosh HD Data> Applications I get only 39 Applications. Of these 17 appear to be duplicates and approximately 17 are applications that I have previously uninstalled,(mostly using CleanMyMac, including "Remove Leftovers").
It it seems to me that there is still some clutter on the Data drive and that there is some duplication. Alternatively the apparent duplications may really be aliases.
I just want to make sure that only the applications that I want are on the system and that they are not unnecessarily duplicated.
Any thoughts would be welcome

Applications are stored in [at least] two places.
The Apple-installed apps are on the "sealed system volume", and you can't remove them.

Apps that are "3rd-party" (non-Apple) get stored on the user-writeable "HD Data" volume, and you CAN remove these.

The OS "blends them all together" in the Applications folder, so they look like they're all in one place -- but they're not.

For removing apps, I recommend the small free utility called "AppCleaner" (note there is no space between App and Cleaner).
Works very well.

Thank you Fishrrman for your advice.
I can now give an update after working on the matter this morning.
I went through all 39 of the apps on HD Data drive and tried to open them. Some did actually open so, initially, I ignored these. Some gave a message that the app was "damaged", so I deleted these. Some were applications that I knew that I had already uninstalled so I deleted these.
It left me Apps that I want and that appeared to be duplicated i.e. on both drives. So, one by one, I deleted these, each time checking that the app was still on the Data drive and that it was still working. (Frequently rebooting after deletions).
I eventually got to the point where there were NO Apps on the HD Data drive and all my 80 Apps were still working.
Most significantly, my iMac is considerably faster so it was very worthwhile.
