I'm definitely getting a 32gb model, so it's only $180 more to upgrade to the MAX. I plan to keep this laptop for approximately 5-6 years.
Most of my uses now don't require the MAX, but I'm thinking about dabbling in some other apps.
Now:
- web, office, some xcode/python/react native dabbling
- infrequent photo editing a few times a year in photoshop or lightroom
Interested in dabbling:
- lightweight video production - probably wouldn't do any fancy effects or filtering though
- games - the lack of macOS games means I've never bothered with a good gpu on the past on macbooks, the the gpu is sort of what makes this chip special. Mostly interested in RTS type games. Not interest in FPS really.
- debating if some other machine learning tools could take advantage of the max chip, or if it wouldn't really matter since most software would just use the neural processor
I'm also kind of curious if more apps moving forward find ways to better take advantage of the max's 400GB/s memory and fast gpu for other processing that could be helpful, particularly if anything gets largely accelerated in macOS in the future (safari, maps, etc)
